Our Services
What we do at Bonita Family Resource Center.
- Healthy Food Delivery Program: BFRC has launched a new Program! Our objective with this program is to minimize child hunger and strengthen food security among our vulnerable populations. BFRC envisions the ability to distribute warm and cold meals, we will work with other organizations and schools to also reach foster students. This project will reach youth and provide them with access to fresh, delicious, and nutritious food.
- California Housing Preservation Campaign: In collaboration with UnidosUS, Bonita Family Resource Center is happy to connect the community to free counseling on Rental, Foreclosure prevention, Pre-Purchase, Financial counseling for renters, and Financial Management. During these sessions consumers can communicate with professional counselors on the topic of their choice. A plan of action is created with the help of these counselors to work towards meeting a goal, and all of this free of cost. Over 100 consumers were referred to this program to receive such valuable information.
- Comprando Rico Y Sano: In partnership with UnidosUS, more than 400 individuals received 2-hour nutrition education sessions in San Diego and Imperial Valley where they learned about healthy eating, meal planning, label reading, and more. More than 10 cooking demonstrations were given to provide our communities with healthy recipes to practice at home. In addition to this, supermarket visits were offered to those attendees who took the nutrition sessions to apply the valuable information they learned during our sessions. During these visits, participants had the chance to take home fresh and healthy ingredients to cook at home for their families. BFRC was able to bring this program to different locations around our communities. Our Community Health Workers and Promotores De Salud, gave these sessions at our offices, schools, and apartment complexes. In Imperial Valley one of our most successful locations was the local Center for Employment Training (CET). This is an economic and community development corporation that promotes human development and education by providing people with marketable skills training and supportive services that contribute to self-sufficiency. Our nutrition sessions were given at this location to classes of more than 30 students at a time and were done twice a month, impacting many community members.
- Medi-Cal Renewals: Bonita Family Resource Center in partnership with Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), (are working together) to ensure that no one in San Diego and Imperial Valley are left without access to healthcare and to prevent health disparities. Having access to healthcare (increases the opportunities for adults to receive preventive services) and therefore reduces chronic conditions like diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. Health care access provides services such as prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases, illnesses, disorders, and other health-related conditions.
